 Perlane is a hyaluronic acid injectable filler which is FDA-approved for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. <>strongPerlane is commonly used to treat worry lines, smile lines, crow’s feet, marionette lines, smoker’s lines, nasolabial folds, skin depressions and acne scars. It may also be used to enhance the lips, augment the chin and redefine the lip border. Perlane is different from Restylane in that its hyaluronic acid gel particles are larger, allowing the filler to reach the deep layers of the skin.
Individuals who are looking to improve the appearance of deep facial folds and wrinkles or augment the lips or chin may be good candidates for Perlane. Dr. Abergel performs the Perlane injection in his office using an ultra-fine needle to inject the filler directly beneath the skin. While discomfort is generally minor, a topical anesthetic may be used to maximize the patient’s comfort. Side effects are generally minor. However, as with any injectable filler, some temporary swelling, redness and bruising may occur which typically fades within a few days. Despite these side effects, patients are able to immediately return to normal activities including work. Studies have shown that the results of Perlane may last six months to a year.
