What's new in Laser Resurfacing?
Laser technology has changed dramatically in the last few years. Computerized lasers, such as the Sharplan Silk Touch Flash Scanner and the Coherent Ultra Pulse have revolutionized laser treatment. Protocols are now standardized to reduce risk and improve results. Dr. Abergel is among the very first to have used the laser scanner technology. He is the inventor of two patent pending applications related to the Silk Touch Flash Scanner.
What is the Laser Face Peel?
A Face Peel offers you an alternative to surgery to make your skin more youthful. The Face Peel, performed by R. Patrick Abergel, M.D., at the Laser Aesthetic Surgery Center is an advanced technique for rejuvenating your skin. The treatment consists of specific lasers to obtain the best effect for each lesion. For example, enlarged blood vessels are first selectively erased. Then, precancerous lesions and wrinkles are removed by a carbon dioxide laser. Each laser is so specific that the best result can now be accomplished. In some cases, a chemical called TCA is added to perfect the results. After treatment, your skin peels by itself, like after a sunburn. A few days later, a younger and smoother skin takes the place of the previous damaged skin.
What are the advantages of the laser peel over other methods?
The Laser Peel is a gentler approach to skin rejuvenation. Unlike the classic phenol peel, the laser peel is not toxic to your heart or kidneys since laser light is not deeply absorbed of your natural skin color after treatment. The healing is quicker with the laser than it is after a phenol peel or dermabrasion. Your skin will look refreshed and natural.
When should you consider having a face peel?
Anyone with skin imperfections should consider this treatment. Early sun damage is easier to correct. As soon as the effects of photoaging become apparent, with fine wrinkling, irregular pigmentation and enlarged blood vessels, it is time to think about a Peel. the treatment is individually designed to meet the needs of each patient for the best possible results.
Where is the treatment performed?
The Face Peel is performed in our state-of-the-art surgery and laser center. After surgery, you will recover in the comfort fo your own home.
How much time off is required?
It depends on the intensity of the damage that was present on your skin. Early sun damage that was present on your skin. Early sun damage can be corrected easily and you can return to your activities after a week. More severe cases will require two weeks to recover.
How long do the benefits of a face peel last?
After a Face Peel, it is important that you preserve the results of this procedure. We will advise you on the daily care of your skin. The benefits will be long lasting if you avoid sun exposure. A mild Peel can be performed when necessary every two or three years.
Are there any complications?
Cosmetic surgery, like any surgery has complications. During your consultation, all the risks will be discussed with you in detail to enable you to make an informed decision. Dr. Abergel will determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure.
How do lasers rejuvenate skin?
Dr. Abergel's research at Harbor/UCLA discovered the mechanism of laser stimulation of collagen in 1984. This newly formed collagen gives a youthful look to the skin and reduces wrinkles.
